  • William Shomento, BS ’90 industrial engineering, was promoted to colonel in the Montana Army National Guard. He serves as the Brigade commander of the 1889th RSG comprised of 2,200 soldiers across Montana.
  • Mary Joan Braun Widiger, BS ’90 mass communication, has contracted with the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute for the position of communications and events specialist. Headquartered out of Crookston, Minnesota, AURI has offices and laboratories in Marshall, St. Paul and Waseca, Minnesota. She lives in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
  • Ruth Denton-Graber, MS ’94 child development and family science, joined The Village Family Service Center as an outpatient therapist. She is a licensed professional clinical counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist. She also is certified in dialectical behavior therapy.
  • Kristine Ringler, BS ’99 mass communication, joined the NDSU Foundation and Alumni Association as prospect research manager.

  • Samuel Markell, BS ’98 biological Sciences, MS ’02, plant pathology, was named Communicator of the Year by the agriculture communication department and North Dakota chapter of the Association for Communication Excellence. He is a plant pathologist with the NDSU Extension Service.
  • Kelly Fenno, MEd ’94 counseling and guidance, was promoted to vice president and retail loan administrator at Bell Bank’s 3100 13th Ave. S. location in Fargo. She has worked at Bell Bank for 20 years in loan documentation positions.
  • Lonnie Wangen, BUS ’95 university studies, has been appointed to the Veterans Rural Health Advisory Committee. He was appointed by Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin effective Oct. 19. He is North Dakota’s veteran affairs commissioner.
  • Franz A. Ollerman, BA ’95, BS ’98 civil engineering, is president of American Society of Civil Engineers’ Maryland Section and deputy director of engineering at the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Maryland Aviation Administration. He lives in Abingdon, Maryland.
