Notice: RTE configuration changes

Created by Jill |

In an effort to make Web sites more consistent with university and technical standards -- and to make content more accessible to users with disabilities -- ITS is making some changes to the TYPO3 rich text editor (RTE) on the morning of Thursday, February 28, 2008.

With these changes in place, the TYPO3 RTE will automatically make updates to ensure that non-standard formatting is removed each time a page is modified. This process only happens during editing, so pages that are not modified will not be automatically changed.

Please note that these changes should not affect the content of a site, only styles and formatting that appear on the page.

The changes will have no impact on most sites, but authors should be aware of them and are always advised to review pages in the preview window before choosing “send for review” or “publish.”

Here a few of the visible changes that authors may notice going forward:

  • Heading levels 5 and 6 are not available in the heading pull-down menu (levels 1-4 have a new style in green color and smaller size)
  • Navigation links to the page that is currently open will be removed. For example, on the home page of your site the link to “home” will be deactivated because it is unnecessary
  • If visitors to your Web site have Javascript disabled, they will be directed to a help page when they try to use the text-sizing buttons
  • Certain formats –- such as blinking text -– can no longer be inserted in page content

If you believe a format/style option has been removed in error, or for questions about how these changes affect you, please submit a help request at <http://www.ndsu.edu/cms/help>.
