Excellence in Teaching Award
Each year, the College of Engineering (CoE) recognizes outstanding teaching activities of CoE faculty by awarding the CoE Teacher of the Year. The CoE Academic Affairs Committee in conjunction with the Office of the Dean is soliciting nominations for this award. The deadline for receipt of nominations and supporting materials is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Candidate must be faculty with more than 8 years of experience as a faculty in one of the CoE Departments at NDSU (counted from his/her start date at NDSU to the December 31st immediately prior to the application deadline).
- Candidate must not have won a CoE excellence in teaching award in the past 10 years.
Nominations and the Required Supporting Materials:
The nominations for this award must be submitted as PDF files by the CoE Departments to the CoE Academic Affairs Committee Chair. Each Department can nominate one individual for this award.
The nomination packet must include:
- A one-page nomination letter, signed by the Department Chair and faculty nominator (if nominator is not the Chair), including the candidate’s name, their present rank and affiliated department, a brief paragraph summarizing the candidate’s history of employment at NDSU (including date of hire and dates of promotion/tenure if applicable), and a brief paragraph describing the candidate’s teaching focus, and highlights of the candidate’s teaching contributions and impacts to the Department.
- A two-page CV that highlights the teaching contributions
- A one-page Statement of Teaching Accomplishment from the candidate
The following materials are optional to support the candidate’s activities during the past five years at NDSU. Optional materials are limited to a total of 10 pages:
- Supporting letters from student(s) and/or peer(s).
- Supporting materials on teaching, advising, and curriculum development, which may include: Student Course Experience Survey (SCES) summary data tables; peer and/or other professional evaluations of teaching; a list of graduate and undergraduate students advised; the record of course, lab, and curriculum development; the record of teaching research/scholarship completed by the nominee at NDSU.
The CoE Academic Affairs Committee will use the recommendations and supporting documents to rank the nominees. The Office of the Dean will announce the winner of this award.
