We Got This: Equity/Access/Quest

ENGL 2000

The 3rd Annual National Writing Project Midwest Conference keynote speaker is Cornelius Minor, an immigrant from Liberia who teaches in Brooklyn. His book, We Got This, is about understanding how to reach a diversity of students in your class and work toward social justice and equity. Over the course of the 2020-2021 school year, participants will engage with this text and each other to learn how to listen deeply to our students and transform educational spaces to empower ALL students.

Objectives:

Participants will:

  • read We Got This.
  • discuss and plan beside We Got This.
  • implement strategies from We Got This.
  • reflect on the impact of these strategies.

Course Requirements:

  1. Attend Cornelius Minor’s Keynote at the National Writing Project Midwest Conference July 31, 2020 {begins @ 3:30 p.m.} intro meeting, community meeting, writing marathon (2½ hrs.)
  2. Participate in the monthly Google Classroom tasks and reflections, 1 hr/month = (5 hrs.)
  3. Participate in discussions, September, November, January, March and May @ 1½ hr. each = (7½ hrs.) with course completion May 29, 2021.

Target Audience:

K-College Teachers, Curriculum Coordinators, Library Media Specialists, Instructional Coaches, Administration, and anyone who supports literacy from kindergarten through college in the state of North Dakota.
