NDSU DCE hosts free back to school bash for parents with two free seminars

Distance and Continuing Education at North Dakota State University, Fargo, will host a Back To School Bash for parents featuring two seminars addressing topics including discipline and Internet safety. Both events are free and open to the public, pre-registration is required.
The first event, Smart Discipline, will be held August 2 in Fosston, MN from 7-9 p.m. at the Fosston High School and August 3 in Fargo from 7-9 p.m. at NDSU Festival and Concert Hall. Larry Koenig PhD, featured speaker, will examine discipline strategies that help control fighting, bickering and disrespect while instilling positive beliefs and self confidence. Koenig will discuss ways to curb negative attitudes and get your children to do what you ask them the first time.
The second event, Technology Safety for Families, will be held August 16 in Fosston, MN from 7-9 p.m. at the Fosston High School and August 17 in Fargo from 7-9 p.m. at NDSU Beckwith Hall. Rick Anderson, featured speaker, will explore and demonstrate different technologies available to families today. With these new technologies come disturbing trends among teens known as cyber bullying and sexting. Anderson will provide insight into what these trends are and how they are harmful. This seminar will offer tips for safety in technology as well as information on filtering, blocking and monitoring software that can help keep your kids safe.
