Undergrads are required to complete an internship as part of their degree program Department of Emergency Management North Dakota State University. We place students based on their career interests. These internships are integral to student professional development, but don't take our word for it. Kyle Barzen-Hanson writes of his 2017 summer internship, "My internship is with the City of Rochester Emergency Management. So far during my time here I have worked on a variety of things including: helping a local VOAD start to create a COOP, Created a Gantt chart/mindmap with resources so the VOAD can continue the process when I leave, annotate Rochester's EOP with MNWALK 2017 to make sure everything is covered, created a Spanish version of the EM department website, and attended several HSEM region 1 meetings. I have learned that there is a lot of background operations, tasks, and activities that have to be performed all the time to keep the process of emergency management fluid and functioning."
