Kara Smith, Online Instructor

Office: Online Only

I have a Master’s degree in English Composition and Rhetoric from NDSU. My Bachelor’s degree is from UND in English Language and Literature, with a minor in Psychology. I have two Associate’s degrees; one is from Suffolk County Community College in Liberal Arts and the other is from the Community College of the Air Force in Intelligence Applications.

It seems I’ve always had a role as a teacher. In corporate positions with companies like Bell Atlantic Mobile (now Verizon) and, I worked in customer service and training. In the military, my focus was on training and briefing aircrews. While working toward my Associate’s degree, I spent my free time tutoring small groups and individuals. I’ve taught college classes since 2008, including College Composition II, Writing in the Health Professions, Business and Professional Writing, Writing in the Humanities and Social Sciences, Expository Writing, Argument Based Research, Professional Research and Reporting and American Literature.

I currently teach exclusively online classes for NDSU from my home in Wilmington, NC. My goal with online courses is to simulate the traditional, face-to-face classroom as much as possible, fostering collaboration and a sense of community. I’m passionate about student success and growth.
