Maroon Silk Crepe-Back Satin Dress

Dress, made of maroon silk crepe-back satin. Main part of the bodice has crepe side out with satin side used as trim. Skirt has satin side showing. Flapper styling with lowered waistline and short skirt. Neckline is trimmed with flat double-layered collar of beige silk crepe with six rhinestone buttons at center front. Both collar layers are finished with binding of maroon satin. Inset V of satin reaches from shoulders to natural waist. A flat bow of fabric is sewn to right shoulder with streamers falling to bust level. Straight sleeves with wrists finished with a two-layered cuff of beige, trimmed in maroon. Wrists close with one snap. Narrow vertical tucks across back shoulders from neckline. Lowered waistline trimmed with flat fabric belt, similar to bow on shoulder, with bow and streamers at left side. Gold tone pin with rhinestone setting sewn to bow. Top has a wrap-around panel ending with shirring on left side. c. 1925

The dress was worn by Veda Shanks, mother of Delores.
