World iView: Monasteries and Manuscripts along the Camino de Santiago (Diversity)
Dr. Benjamin Smith, professor of Spanish from Minnesota State University Moorhead, spent the Fall 2011 semester walking the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile pilgrimage to the tomb of St. James. Along the way, he stopped at monasteries and was granted access to 1000 year-old manuscripts that can be used to track the development of the Spanish language from its mother tongue, Latin. This experience is not unique to scholars and researchers. In addition, students can gain access to these same sites through studying abroad, learning to contextualize their experiences with the values held in modern-day Spain More information...
