LGBT+ Affirming Churches Talk (Diversity)
Rev. Grace Murray is the pastor of People’s United Church of Christ, a progressive new church start in Fargo. People’s UCC is an Open & Affirming (ONA) congregation that welcomes all people into the full life of the church regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression, or gender identity. She earned the BA in Communication – Theater concentration from North Carolina State University and the MDiv from Duke Divinity School. She is a longtime ally and advocate for the LGBTQ community.
Pastor Joe Larson is the pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Fargo, which is the only Reconciling In Christ (RIC) congregation in North Dakota (which means it is the only church congregation that has voted to be welcoming and inclusive to LGBTQ individuals.) St. Mark’s Lutheran Church is also the first Lutheran congregation in North Dakota to call an openly gay pastor. Pastor Joe A. Larson was called as their pastor in June 2016. Previously, Pastor Larson served for 14 years as executive director of The Aliveness Project, a community center for people living with HIV/AIDS in Minneapolis, MN. Pastor Larson also serves on the Board of Directors of the Pride Collective and Community Center, a nonprofit serving LGBTQ+ individuals in Fargo/Moorhead.
What does it mean for a church to be lgbtqia affirming? Come find out! Open to all. :-) More information...
