He has held a doctoral degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) since 2012, focusing on the building’s mechanical systems. Prior to UNL, he also earned M.S. degree with honors in Engineering Thermophysics from Tsinghua University, China, in 2003.

Dr. Yang worked for two companies for four years, including Ford Motors in China as a sourcing/quality engineer (within the Air Conditioning Department) and Building Energy Solution and Technology as an application engineer. In addition, he has over three years of teaching experience in college engineering education in China, where he taught a variety of courses in Mechanical Engineering and Quality Management.

His research expertise is on smart buildings, building environment systems, building energy efficiency, thermophysical properties measurement of porous materials, and renewable energy. As a key investigator, Dr. Yang has conducted several research projects funded with over two million dollars by different sponsors, including the California Energy Commission (CEC), Target, and other public/private institutions. His research results have been published in ten peer reviewed journal papers and various other publications (e.g., conference paper and encyclopedia entry).
