Type species: Ochlerus Spinola, 1837: Ochlerus cinctus Spinola, 1837, by monotypy. Menipha Amyot & Serville, 1843: Menipha brunnea Amyot & Serville, 1843 (= Ochlerus cinctus Spinola, 1837), by monotypy. Melanodermus Stål, 1867: Ochlerus circummaculatus Stål, 1860, by subsequent designation (Kirkaldy, 1909).

Taxonomic placement: This is type genus for the tribe Ochlerini which resides in the subfamily Discocephalinae.
