Lisa Filippi
Associate Professor,
Hofstra University

I have been carrying out studies on the behavioral ecology of the extensive care in Parastrachia japonensis (Heteroptera: Parastrachiidae) in Japan since 1989.  My interests focus on the ecological factors that have lead to the evolution of progressive provisioning and trophic egg production in this fascinating East Asian species.  I have been at Hofstra University in New York for five years, where I am currently an Associate Professor of Biology, but I return to Japan every year to continue these studies in collaboration with my husband, Shintaro Nomakuchi, and a former student, Mantaro Hironaka.  I am presently on a quest to locate different populations of related species among the Cydnidae, in particular the Sehirinae, in North America to conduct comparative analyses of these behaviors.
