Edessa bifida: Herrich-Schäffer, 1853: 86.

Aceratodes bifida: Lethierry, 1881: 8.

         Distribution: Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico (Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Tamaulipas, Veracruz), Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, United States (AK, AR, CA, FL, LA, MD, NC, SC, TX, VA).
 

        Type Material: Pentatoma bifida Say, 1831: ST(S), Louisiana, probably destroyed. Edessa albirenis Herrich-Schäffer, 1844: ST(S), Carolina [United States], Germar Collection, MLUH? or ZMHB?
 
       Note: Say intended to formally describe this species in his 1832 paper, but he referred to the species and gave a brief description in his 1831 paper; this is adequate to stand as the valid description.
