YMCA Childcare Assistant Teacher - West Fargo, ND

Childcare Assistant Teacher:
Our Assistant Teachers work in one of our 5 YMCA Early Learning Centers. We have Early Learning Centers located in our Fercho YMCA and Schlossman YMCA branches, as well as three Early Learning Centers located in Fargo and West Fargo.
Our Early Learning Centers provide quality, licensed care for infants - preschool children (children ages 6 weeks to 5 years). Our curriculum incorporates math, science, dramatic play, music, and art to provide opportunities for group and independent learning experiences. All sites are accredited by NAEYC or working toward this prestigious distinction.
As an Assistant Teacher at the Y, you will:
- Assist the Early Learning Center Teacher in promoting a healthy, emotional, social, intellectual and physical environment for each child by providing a variety of activities to enhance gross and fine motor skills, social/emotional development, and sensory/cognitive experiences.
- Assist the Early Learning Center Teacher in the safe supervision of the assigned group of children while planning a creative curriculum environment.
- Assist the Early Learning Center Teacher in executing a developmentally appropriate experience using a variety of materials in the fields of art, math, music, science, physical movement, literature, etc.
- Engage in positive staff-child interactions along with positive parent-teacher interactions, as well as maintaining good communication with the Early Learning Center Teacher, Classroom Assistants, and Early Learning Center Director.
- Be a role model for the children by presenting yourself in a confident, dignified manner.
Assistant Teacher Pay & Benefits:
- Starting Pay: $16/hour
- Full Time (40 hours per week)
- Shifts are between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday)

- The cost is shared by the YMCA and the employee. Participation may begin after 30 days of Full Time Employment. See the benefits link for rates on our website.
- Paid Time Off - Full Time employees will begin accruing PTO immediately upon their Full Time employment start date.
- The amount of PTO accrued is based on the amount of hours worked in a pay period and years of service. For someone working 40 hours per week, the accrual rate is as follows: 0-2 years of employment: 6.48 hours per pay period (or 21 days per year); 2-5 years of employment: 8 hours per pay period (or 26 days per year); 5+ years of employment: 9.52 hours per pay period (or 31 days per year).
- 12% Retirement Plan - The YMCA will automatically contribute an additional 12% of the eligible employees monthly income into their YMCA Retirement Plan when the following requirements are met
- The employee has been employed with the YMCA for 2 years.
- The employee has worked 1,000 hours during each of any two 12-month periods.
- The employee is 21 years of age or older.

Assistant Teacher Qualifications
- At least 18 years old AND
- High School Diploma or GED AND
- 6 months of paid experience working with children (not including babysitting)
And must also complete:
- Within 90 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/AED Certification for Adult, Child, and Pediatrics
- Within 90 days of hire: 15 hours of basic childcare training through Child Care Aware

YMCA Childcare - After School Leader - Fargo, ND
The YMCA is hiring After School Leaders to work in one of our 25+ School Age Learning Centers! Our After School child care programs serve children Kindergarten - Fifth Grade. Work at a main YMCA location (Fercho YMCA or Schlossman YMCA) or directly in an elementary school. We operate after school programs out of the Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, Horace, and Harwood elementary schools.
Childcare Leader:
We have shifts available Monday-Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Our schedules are flexible - we will work around school schedules, other jobs, etc. to get you the hours you want! Want to work with younger kids? We also have hours available in our Early Learning Centers (working with children ages infant - age 5) between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. You will be able to indicate the age you'd like to work with on your application.
As a Childcare Leader, you will:
- Guide the children through their daily after school routine: Welcome/Check-In, Snack Time, Homework Help, Physical Activity (Gym/Outside), Indoor Play, etc.
- Lead the children in a variety of activities, such as arts and crafts, science experiments, gym games, etc.
- Provide a healthy, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical environment that promotes active learning for each child in the program.
- Engage in positive staff-child and staff-parent interactions at all times. Maintain clear communication with the Site Coordinator, Site Supervisor, and/or Site Director.
- Be a professional role model for the children by presenting yourself in a confident, dignified manner.
Childcare Leader Pay & Benefits:
Work 5 days a week and earn an extra .50 cents per hour! Must be able to start no later than 2:30 p.m. to earn the extra .50 cents an hour.
- Leader Pay: $15.00/hour

Middle School Afterschool Program Staff Position
T.E.A.M. = “Teens Empowered and Motivated”
Wage: $14.00 per hour; 7-10 hours/week; see schedule details below
The T.E.A.M. Leadership Academy is a grant funded afterschool program facilitated by NDSU for students attending Ben Franklin Middle School. This program uses a whole child approach emphasizing the development of both health and physical literacy and other academic skills. The program take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons 3:40-5:30 p.m. and staff are expected to also attend staff meetings on Thursdays 3:30-4:30 p.m. on campus. New staff will be expected to attend an additional 5+ hours of training. See a detailed staff calendar HERE. Additional hours are available for those that opt to transport program participants home via NDSU vans.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Building positive relationships with middle school students
- Providing guidance, emotional support, and encouragement to middle school students as they complete activities
- Assisting with all on-site program operations
- Ensuring safety of all participants and staff
- Leading lessons in health literacy, physical literacy, or nutrition and/or providing academic tutoring
- Participating in staff trainings and meetings
- Collaborating with program staff to deliver the afterschool program
- Other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Current NDSU education major
- Experience working with middle school students
- Able to lead lessons in physical literacy, health literacy or nutrition and/or provide tutoring in math or language arts
- CPR/First-aid certified

The Academy for Children
The Academy for Children is looking for a childcare assistant to join us during our closing shift. Starting hours of the day are completely flexible, but we would need the individual to close each day with us, so they would need to be able to work until 6:00 pm. This person would be able to work with infants, toddlers, or preschool aged children throughout the day. We are a Montessori school, and this is a wonderful opportunity to experience and use another teaching style and perspective, and it looks wonderful on future resumes!
