Student members of the NDSU Public Health Association have received the Bison Philanthropy Event of the Year award.
In addition, the NDSU Nursing Student Association in Bismarck received the Bison Service Award for academic-based programs for the 2020-2021 school year. NSA-Bismarck members President Tierrany Trudell, Treasurer Kathryn Dragseth and Director of Funds Hallie Cherwinski attended the Bison Service Challenge Award Ceremony on April 28, 2021 to receive the award.
The NDSU Bison Service Challenge promotes service at NDSU and is a friendly competition among campus groups that volunteer in various ways to help others. This is the second year NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health students in Bismarck received the award.
Members of the NDSU Public Health Association received the Bison Leader Award for Philanthropy Event of the Year. The student group led a food drive to benefit the Emergency Food Pantry where one of its graduate student members volunteers. They gathered more than 300 pounds of food and personal care items and rallied Public Health faculty and other student groups to help in the effort.
Additional student groups such as the NDSU chapter of the National Community Pharmacists Association, NDSU Students of Allied Sciences Club, and the NDSU American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists joined in the Public Health Association event.
“This project was in line with the mission of public health; food security is an incredibly important proponent of public health and all deserve the dignity and compassion when the fall upon hard times,” said Amelia Metcalf, president of the NDSU Student Health Association.
“Hopefully, this food and personal care drive will continue into the next years of the Public Health Association to positively impact the community and the health and wellbeing of people. I am incredibly proud of the students in PHA and their commitment to furthering the mission of public health not only at NDSU, but also across their communities and countries,” said Metcalf.
There are many ways to experience NDSU through the significant number of campus groups in which students can participate during their time at NDSU.
