Madison School students graduate from NDSU’s Great Health Care Adventure

A white coat ceremony in health professions is a mark of achievement—whether you’re in college or in second grade. Twelve students at Madison School in Fargo received their own miniature white lab coats on April 27 for participating in the Great Health Care Adventure sponsored by NDSU’s College of Health Professions

Student ambassadors for the College of Health Professions spend six weeks in an after-school program helping kids learn about health, nursing, pharmacy, lab science, radiology and respiratory care.  The hands-on sessions take the mystery out of health care and possibly inspire future interest in health professions.

The elementary school students received their recognition and pint-size white lab coats with the Great Healthcare Adventure symbol embroidered on them at the ceremony attended by peers in their school.

“Students are excited to receive their child-size white lab coats,” said the group’s advisor Dana Davis, director of outreach and community engagement in the College of Health Professions. “It marks their achievement in learning more about health and about how health professionals help others.”

Some of the College of Health Professions Ambassadors, as well as faculty, also are volunteer mentors at Madison School, such as one who has served as a mentor to a second grade student for the past three years.

The special White Coat Ceremony was covered by local media on the evening news.

The program is funded with diversity grants from Walgreen’s and Target.
