Questions to ask yourself:

2.  Do you enjoy working with people?
3.  Do you want to provide nutrition advice and care?   

If yes, then dietetics is the major for you.   It is more than a job.   The practice of dietetics is continuously changing as new research is discovered on foods and its role in human health.   You will study nutrition in depth and gain experiences to become a Registered Dietitian (RD).   An RD is a nutrition expert and is a nationally recognized credential that is required for most employment in the health care industry and preferred for many other employment opportunities in the area of food and nutrition. 

To become a Registered Dietitian you must complete a four-year academic program, a Practice/Internship, and then pass a national registration examination. 

North Dakota State University has enjoyed a long-standing reputation in Dietetics.   Since 1925, NDSU has educated dietitians who are active nationwide in the profession of dietetics and leaders in professional organizations.   NDSU offers two (2) undergraduate options in dietetics; the Dietitian Education Program (DEP) with a Gerontology concentration and the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).   The DEP includes the supervised practice during the junior and senior year and students are eligible to take the national registry exam after graduation.   The DPD requires the student to complete a supervised practice (Internship) program after graduation.   Students take the national registration examination after their post-graduation internship. After taking the National Registration Exam, students may need to obtain professional licensure in the state in which they intend to practice. Program outcomes data for both programs are available upon request.
