Faculty and Student Blackboard SaaS Experience


Provides students and instructors with information about what to expect once the migration is complete

User Experience / InterfaceLogging into Blackboard from a web browserBlackboard and CTS continue to work on improving performance and outage issues. They have indicated they are monitoring the situation closely. Faculty and students will use their NDUS account (Campus Connection/PeopleSoft) and go an NDSU landing page that looks similar to the NDSU Blackboard landing page today. For each institution they are taking a course at, a tab will be available so they can access Help Desk, Library, and other institution information
Logging into Blackboard MobileShould function as it does today. For example, to find NDSU, the student will serach for North Dakota State University.
Overall Blackboard interfaceOnce in the "My NDSU" tab, will look very similar in layout to the way it is today. Branding, colors, etc. may be different, but it should be navigated similarly to how it is currently
Uploading files to coursesShould be similar experience as today. Some institutions have reported problems in uploading files and overall the course must stay under 10 Gb in size
Course Create/Merge/CopyMoving and copying courses using Blackboard ManagerCTS has indicated they will provide NDSU with access to provide this in the new environment. It requires re-coding Blackboard Manager which is underway
Parent-child/merged coursesShould function as it does today
Course size limitNDSU currently does not have quotas for courses, but CTS has indicated that courses need to be below 10 Gb in size
Course Tools and Building BlocksBlackboard Collaborate (web conferencing)Should be same "Ultra" experience as today
Discussion boardShould function as it does today, but some institutions are have problems uploading small videos to the system
Tegrity lecture capture through BlackboardShould function as it does today
Turning Technologies "clickers" through BlackboardShould function as it does today

Math placement testing integrated to BlackboardTBD - Bb and CTS are developing a solution which will involve NDSU IT uploading files
Enrollment and User AccessAdding departmental faculty or staff to a courseCTS has indicated this should work as it does today
Adding non-NDSU users such as guest lecturers or help facilitating a courseThe NDSU Help Desk will have to initiate a ticket with CTS for these. They have indicated the turn-around for creating these account will be 15 minutes
Faculty self-enrolling TAsCTS has indicated this should continue to be available to faculty
GradebookBlackboard gradebookShould function as it does today
Uploading OMR grades into the Blackboard gradebookCTS has indicated this should work as it does today. NDSU will test to verify

Who can access NDSU courses?NDSU ITS Learning and Applied Innovation group, CTS administrators, Bb administrators, and possible other campuses given administrative roles within the NDUS Bb SaaS instance
