Securing your network printer

ITS recomends that you secure your network printers by implimenting these best practices. Desktop Support will impliment these setting on printers within departments that are fully manage.  The most important step is to request the printer be assigned a reserved IP address.

System Location - Set to Building/Room (eg QBB 236)

IPX/SPX . Disable

AppleTalk . Disable

DLC/LLC . Disable

SNMP . Set the “Set Community Name” & the “Get Community Name”

SLP Config . Disable

Bonjour . Disable

FTP Printing . Disable

IPP Printing . Disable

HP XML Services . Disable

Multicast IPv4 . Disable

Web Services Print . Disable

WS-Discovery . Disable

RCFG . Disable

Privacy Settings . Disable “Allow product information to be sent to HP”

Encryption Strength . Set to High & Encrypt all Web communication
