Set up NDSU Email
on your computer

We recommend using Exchange to set up your NDSU Email (Microsoft Office 365) in Outlook for Windows or Mac. Instructions for this supported option are available below.

Instructions for non-supported options, including Mail for Mac and IMAP/POP, are also available below.

Outlook for Windows (2013, 2016)
  1. Click File
  2. Click Add Account under your Account Information
  3. In the Your Name box, type your name as you want it to appear to other people
  4. In the Email Address box, type your complete email username (typically
  5. In the Password and Retype Password boxes, type the password for your N.D. University System ID
  6. Click Next to configure your account
    Note: If an encrypted connection cannot be established to the email server, you are prompted to click Next to attempt an unencrypted connection
  7. After your account is configured successfully, click Finish
Outlook for Mac (2011)

If you are using Outlook 2011 for Mac on OS X El Capitan, you must download this free upgrade to ensure your mail syncs correctly:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Under Outlook, choose Preferences
  3. Under Personal Settings, choose Accounts
  4. In the bottom left, click the arrow next to the +
  5. Click Exchange
  6. In the Email address field, type your complete NDSU email username (typically
  7. In the User name field, type your complete NDSU email username
  8. In the Password field, type the password for your N.D. University System ID
  9. Make sure that the box next to Configure automatically is checked
  10. Click Add Account
Mail for Mac
  1. In the Applications folder, open Mail
  2. If the Welcome to Mail assistant does not appear, choose Add Account from the File menu
  3. Enter your Full Name, NDSU email username (typically firstname.lastname@ndus.eduand N.D. University System ID password, and then click Continue
  4. Click Create to finish

Using IMAP or POP for Office 365 is not recommended and does not provide full access to all Office 365 email and calendar features. Microsoft has provided generic configuration instructions for several email clients:
