Web and Social Media Communications Specialist

Hours/Week: 15-20
Starting Wage: $10.35/hour

The Web and social media communications specialist will provide ongoing support for Web and social media communications and marketing activities of the NDSU Information Technology Division. The role will involve designing, developing, and maintaining websites and assisting with planning and implementing marketing/communication plans, events and activities. This position will have a particular focus on interactive marketing through social media and the Web, but will provide support for offline marketing efforts as well. These include writing and editing announcements and messages that will be distributed to specific operational units, the university, the university system and the larger community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate regularly with IT Communications Coordinator to coordinate efforts, activities, and schedules
  • Assist with design, development, and maintenance of Information Technology Division websites
  • Assist with creating unique and engaging content on social media sites
  • Assist with writing and editing various internal and external messages and reports
  • Assist in planning and implementation of marketing, educational and public relations efforts and events, including student orientation and resource fairs
  • Participate in meetings and/or committees where appropriate
  • Maintain a high level of professional competency
  • Adhere to STS work practices
  • Deal with sensitive situations and information in a confidential manner

Minimum Qualifications for Employment:

  • Current student enrolled at NDSU 
  • Sophomore standing or higher
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Training or experience writing for the Web
  • Experience using social media to build a business-related or personal online brand identity
  • Background in visual design and graphic art programs, including:

    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe InDesign
    • Adobe Illustrator

  • Strong customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications for Employment:

  • Competence in journalistic writing, particularly Associated Press Style
  • Experience using a Web content management system
  • Interest in photography
