Server Operations Assistant

Hours per Week: 10-15
Starting Wage: $10.00/hour
Reports to: Operations Manager

Provide in-depth, effective and timely technical support to all ITS departments requiring physical hosting of servers, network appliances, storage devices and management consoles. IACC and Research I have Server Operations rooms which are environmentally and electrically designed to provide hosting for these types of devices. Work would take place in either of these two areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Removal/Installation of Cat. 5E cables in server cabinets and cable trays
  • Removal/Installation of fiber optic jumpers in server cabinets and cable trays
  • Writing down cable identification numbers from jumpers that are removed
  • Coiling up copper and fiber jumpers for storage and surplus
  • Labeling cables with cable labeler and recording installation labels
  • Taking inventory and organizing the back room

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current student enrolled at NDSU
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to climb ladders, and work with hands above head height
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Can follow verbal instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Self-directed work style
  • Good organizational skills
  • Comfort working with a variety of hand tools
  • Interest in the field of networking
