Overview
The university's wireless network provides students, faculty, staff and sponsored guests with wireless Internet access on all NDSU campuses, including the main campus, downtown campus and the NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health campus in Bismarck. A one-time device setup is required to connect wirelessly from anywhere on NDSU's campuses.
On the main campus, wireless also is available at two outdoor locations:
- The Babbling Brook - North of the South Engineering building
- Dakota Plaza - Next to the Geosciences building, just west of the Family Life Center
Available Networks and Connection Instructions
There are five wireless network SSIDs available on NDSU's campus. The descriptions below are intended to help you select the best option for you, which may depend on:
- your affiliation with NDSU
- the specific device you want to connect
- whether you're connecting from a Residence Hall room or other on-campus location
Education roaming, or eduroam, is a global internet access service that provides you with secure wireless Internet access at NDSU and at other educational institutions that are part of the eduroam network. Connecting to the network requires installing a security certificate on your device. This network is recommended for faculty, staff, students and guests coming from other institutions that participate in eduroam. Connect a device to eduroam.
The NDSU Guest network provides wireless internet access for guests sponsored by NDSU employees. The NDSU employee must first generate a password to grant guest access to the network. This network uses a less secure connection and is limited in terms of allowed Internet access. This network is also useful for conferences and events hosted by departments. Generate a guest password or connect a device to NDSU Guest.
NDSU Instructions
The NDSU Instructions network is available for temporary use to complete the setup process required to connect to eduroam. NDSU Instructions does not provide access to any other Internet sites.
The NDSU IoT wireless network is available for students living in the Residence Halls who need to connect media streaming and gaming devices to the campus wireless network. NDSU IoT is designed for devices that must connect wirelessly, but are not compatible with the WPA2 Enterprise authentication required to connect to the eduroam network. Connect a device to NDSU IoT.
NDUS Systemwide is available on NDSU’s campus (except residence halls) for guests from other N.D. University System institutions that do not participate in eduroam. Connecting to NDUS Systemwide will require a University System Account and password. Connect a device to NDUS Systemwide.
These are the only official networks provided by NDSU. Other access points are unauthorized and violate NDSU and N.D. University System policy. For security reasons, only authorized wireless networks should be used.
