Face it - there just isn't a 100% reliable way to prevent students from cheating in online assessments! However, you can have some 'tricks up your sleeve' that may help.
During this 50 minute session we'll take a look at several ways you can use Blackboard, Respondus LockDown Browser, and SafeAssign to minimize the risk of cheating in online tests and assignments. We'd like you to share your 'tips and tricks' for discouraging cheating in your classes as well!

Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser which locks the testing environment within Blackboard. With LockDown Brorwser, students can't:
- Print the test or use PrintScreen to capture a screen
- Copy and/or paste anything to or from the test
- Open another browser window, go to another URL, or go to another part of the Blackboard course
- Open other applications (i.e. email, instant messaging, etc.)
- Use any browser menu or toolbar options, or use any right-click or function key options
- Exit the test without submitting answers for grading
Respondus LockDown Browser is installed on all campus computer cluster machines. Students and instructors can also download and install the most current version of LockDown Browser on their own computers at no cost. When the instructor activates LockDown Browser for a test, students MUST use Respondus LockDown Browser to take the test - they cannot begin the test using any other browser!

SafeAssign Plagiarism Prevention
SafeAssign is a third-party service available in Blackboard at no cost. SafeAssign helps instructors prevent plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content in student papers. It can also help instructors educate students about plagiarism and the importance of citing borrowed content properly.
