Abbey Steckler, undergraduate majoring in microbiology, was awarded an American Society for Microbiology Undergraduate Research Fellowship. The ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) is aimed at highly competitive students who wish to pursue graduate careers (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) in microbiology. Students will have the opportunity to conduct full time research at their home institutions with an ASM member and present research results at ASM Microbe the following year. Abbey’s research mentor is Dr. Teresa Bergholz, and her research project is “Genetic characterization of Listeria monocytogenes isolated from cases of Listeriosis in Ruminants in the Upper-Midwest” and is a collaborative project with the North Dakota State Veterinary Diagnostic Lab.
