NDSU Microbiology

VMS grad students, Manoj Shah, Chelsey Grassie, and Maria Cardenas Alvarez, recently visited with students at Oak Grove Elementary School. They talked about the good and bad of bacteria and viruses and did a hand-washing activity with fluorescent GloGerm. Half the class got a dose of GloGerm on their hands and after a few rounds of hand shaking and some black light illumination, the students were able to see how easily germs can be passed. They were also able to visualize the decline in "glowing" as they washed their hands, which emphasized how important hand washing is and how thorough the hand washer needs to be!

Way to go, VMSers! Sounds like a fun day!
