Dr. Ramamoorthy is heading a new 791 course this semester called Foundations in Science and Applied Microbiology. The course is designed to enhance critical-thinking and information-retrieval skills for graduate students in life sciences through the review of contemporary literature. Expected outcomes include improving the student's ability to critically review manuscripts/data, retrieve and process scientific information from various areas of applied research, identify the relevance and application to their area of interest, to develop skills in scientific problem solving and to present and defend experimental designs, complex data sets and conclusions. A team of faculty with expertise in diverse areas such as the molecular pathogenesis, food microbiology, immunology, bioinformatics, carbohydrate research and vaccine/antibody design will lead student presentations and discussions to achieve the course objectives.

This is a 2-credit class that will meet Tuesdays from 2-3:40 in Van Es 102.
