VMS Undergrads Honored

TJ PetersonTwo VMS undergraduate microbiology majors were recently honored. TJ Peterson was one of eight cadets from across the country to win the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement, which is awarded annually to outstanding Military Service III Cadets. The award recognizes scholastic excellence in military and academic subjects. Cadet/Lieutenant Peterson represents the 3rd US Army ROTC Brigade, he maintains a 4.0 GPA, and his long-term goal is to become a US Army Doctor.

Breanne SteffanBreanne Steffan was also recently recognized for her academic and research achievements. She was chosen as a 2012 American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Undergraduate Research Fellowship recipient. This fellowship program identifies competitive microbiology students who aim to pursue an advanced degree in microbiology. Each fellow receives up to a $4,000 stipend, a two-year ASM student membership, and funding to travel to the ASM General Meeting. Breanne currently conducts research on the antibody impact on allergic fungal asthma in Dr. Jane Schuh's lab. Her post-graduation plan is to pursue a doctorate in infectious disease research.
