Modern Languages

The IELP is the Intensive English Language Program of North Dakota State University. Our program is housed in the Department of Modern Languages in Minard Hall. Our program has existed for 30 years, serving the English language learners expecting to study at NDSU. Our program consists of 5 levels (false beginner through advanced), offering 20 credit hours of instruction prior to students beginning their NDSU academic studies. Students can apply as NDSU conditionally-admitted students or IELP Only.

Our teachers are qualified professionals with experience in teaching language students. Many have had experience living and working abroad and have also learned second languages, making them sensitive to the needs of language learners.

IELP students share the excellent facilities of NDSU with academic students. Classrooms are located on campus, all equipped with computer and document projection capability. In addition to classroom activities, students are encouraged to use the IELP free tutoring service to complement their language study. Cultural events and activities are provided each semester. Students can also join clubs like Conversation English Circle to practice their English with American and other international students on campus.

Located in Fargo, ND, North Dakota State University is proud of its student focus. It is also a land grant university, known for its research activity. Once you arrive on campus, you will find that being “Bison Proud” is easy: In addition to excellent academic and fine arts offerings, NDSU athletics is strong. The Bison football team has won the NCAA Division I football national championship for 5 years in a row!

Student Focused. Land Grant. Research University.
