Ochropleura implecta  Lafontaine 1998)

Common name: no accepted common name, listed here as 'American flame-shouldered dart.'

Hodges #: 10891 as O. plecta.

Identification: Rfw 12.1 mm; dark fws with ocellate ordinary spots and pale costa; hw largely white with dark terminal line and fuscous scales at apex and along outer margin, darker in &&. Frons smooth, pro-tibia with both mesal and lateral row of setae, lateral row largely hidden by a fringe of scales.  Male antennae ciliate, weakly biserrate/bifasciculate.

Similar species: 10674, 10701.2, 10818, 10826, 10878, 11016, and 11017.

Distribution: Central Canada and United States, coast to coast; distribution more spotty in southern states.

Hosts: Larvae have been reported from Salix-- Willow, Chicorium-- Endive, and Trifolium-- Clovers. Occasionally reported as an economically important pest of Beta vulgare-- Sugar beets.

Note: prior to 1998, this species was confused with O. plecta (Linnaeus) of the Old World and is listed under that species in economic literature.
