Eucosma ridingsana (Robinson 1869)

Common name: listed here as ‘Snakeweed borer.

Hodges #: 3014.

Identification: Rfw 8.4 mm, fw orange-brown with silvery blotches, median and cubital veins convergent at outer margen. Palpi not longer than head, abdomen without tympanum.

Similar species: 3030, 3035, 3149, 5342, and 5408.

Distribution: Great Plains states and provinces, eastward in prairie habitats.

Hosts: Larvae bore in roots of Gutierrezia sarothrae (Pursh.) Britt. & Rusby– Broom smartweed. Records from Sarcobatus spp.– greesewood may refer to another species.
