Cochylis hospes (Walsingham 1884)

Common name: Banded sunflower moth.

Hodges #: 3830.

Identification: Rfw 6.73 mm, fw straw yellow with outwardly oblique dark brown fascia with a dark spot and scattered blue scales. Species of similar color, lack the fascia, those with a dark fascia lack the straw yellow ground color.

Similar species: None known from ND.

Distribution: southern Canada and United States east of the Rockies.

Hosts: Larvae bore in heads and seeds of Helianthus spp.– sunflowers and probably other composites.
