Loxostege cereralis (Zeller 1872)

Common name: Alfalfa webworm.

Hodges #: 5017.

Identification: Rfw 14 mm, fw vein Rs4 arising from discal cell, fw pale subterminal shade with evenly rounded inner margin, hw gradually darker from base to outer margin, maxillary palpi brownish, proboscis with scales at base, ventral abdomen yellowish white.

Similar species: 5004, 5016, 5156.

Distribution: southern Canada to Mexico.

Hosts: a general feeder reported from a variety of crop and weed species, injurious to Medicago sativa L.– alfalfa.
