Noctuoidea, Notodontidae: Phalerinae

Nadata gibbosa (J. E. Smith 1897)

Common name: White-dotted prominent/ Rough prominent,

Hodges #: 7915.

Identification: Rfw 20.65 mm, fw outer margin crenulate; reniform spot consisting of two white dots or a white bar. Thorax not contrasting with fw groundcolor, with a largedorsal tuft.  Palpi reach to top of eye, male antennae bipectinate to apex. 

Similar species: 7902,7903, 7907, 7908.

Distribution: southern Canada and United States except Pacific Northwest.

Hosts: Larval feed on Qak- Quercus, birch- Betula, Cherry- Prunus, Rose- Rosa,  Maple- Acer, Serviceberry- Amerlacher, willow- Salix.
