Virbia fragilis (Strecker 1878)
| Common name: listed here as 'Fragile
virbia.'
Hodges #: 8125. Identification: Rfw 11.5 mm, fw venation quadrifid, hw rarely with black discal spot; dorsal surface of antennae annulated with brown and whitish; ventral abdomen brown, orange or yellow. Similar species: 8123, 8121, 8114, 8092, 6256. Distribution: southwestern Canada and western U.S. Hosts: Larvae have been reared on Taraxicum-- dandelion. Note: The very similar V. aurantiaca (Hübner) occurs in SD. Lightest males resemble V. ferruginosa, darkest females resemble the lower right figure of V. fragilis. See key and photo gallery. Antennal characters are those of V. fragilis; rfw length averages 1 mm shorter.
