Grammia virguncula (W. Kirby 1837)
| Common name: Little virgin tiger moth.
Hodges #: 8175, as Apantesis virguncula (W. Kirby). Identification: Rfw 20.1 mm, fw veins marked with cream white, rarely with a single transverse line in discal cell, hw orange yellow with variable black markings. Pro-tibiae dorsally white or with a white streak. Similar species: 8175.1, 8171. Distribution: Eastern U.S. and southern Canada, west to the eastern edge of the Great Plains.. Hosts: Larvae reported from a variety of herbaceous plants including: Taraxicum-- dandelion, Plantango-- plantain, and Polygonum-- knotweeds. Note: See-- The Grammia complex in North Dakota. |
