| Common name: Dogbane tiger moth/
Delicate cycnia.
Hodges #: 8230. Identification: Rfw 17 mm, fw costa yellow from base to beyond discal cell, often with gray shading in discal cell and cells M1 and S5; ptagiae yellow, tegulae yellow at base, vertex yellow, palpi prorrect, tongue well developed. Abdomen dorsally white, each tergite with a black spot and yellow caudal band. Proboscis strong as compared to Spilosoma, or Hyphantria species. Similar species: 8254, 8238. 8231, 8230. Distribution: southern Canada and United States, absent from the southwest. Hosts: Larvae feed on Apocynym-- dogbane.
