Catocala ilia (Cramer 1776)

Common name: Beloved underwing/ Wife underwing.

Hodges #: 8801.

Identification: Rfw 36.9 mm, fw pattern variable, hw with irregular pm and outer marginal bands; ventral f/hw with discal areas reddish; fore tibiae without setae.

Similar species: 8796, 8798, 8805.

Distribution: southern Canada and United States east of the Rockies.

Hosts: Larvae feed on Quercus macrocarpa Michx.– Bur oak.
