Syngrapha octoscripta (Grote 1874)

Common name: Listed here as 'Silver-eight looper moth.'

Hodges #: 8926.

Identification: Rfw 15-18 mm, fw mottled gray with some brown shading in median area, stigma an irregular 'sideways 8' usually gray filled.  Meta-tibiae with a few spiniform setae.  Male valve with a preapical seta.

Similar species: 8914, 8939, 9353, 6235.

Distribution: Alaska to Labrador, southward to northeast and north central United States. Lafontaine & Poole (1991), p 103, fig. 44 show a collection record for the northeastern quarter of ND.

Hosts: Larvae feed on Vaccinium species.
