May 2017 Dryness

May was dry across much of the state.  From my perspective, one dry month comes no where close to a drought, but in some circles such words are being thrown around.  Sub soil moisture is plentiful, but clearly the top few inches are dry in many, but certainly not all areas.  We are but one good rain away from being wet, but for now many locations could use some rain.  Some rain will come later today, but most locations will not get all that much.  A few spots will, that is how things go in our climate, the rain never falls evenly.   After today, the next chance of rain looks to be holding off until the middle of next week, meaning short term dryness continuing.
