Pharmaceutical sciences lecture to feature cancer expert

The NDSU Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has scheduled a public seminar featuring a renowned cancer expert.

Bharat B. Aggarwal will present “Targeting Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle for Prevention and Treatment of Cancer” on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Sudro Hall room 21. The seminar is open to all individuals interested in biomedical research.

Aggarwal is a Ransom Horne Jr. Distinguished Professor of Cancer Research and professor of immunology, biochemistry, experimental therapeutics, and chief of the cytokine research section in the Department of Experimental Therapeutics at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the Albert B. Alkek Institute of Biosciences and Technology at Texas A&M University.

He earned a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and received post-doctoral training from the Hormone Research Laboratory at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. His nearly 10 years at Genentech Inc. resulted in the discovery of tumor necrosis factors alpha and beta – essential components of the immune system – and identification of their receptors.

Aggarwal is listed as inventor or co-inventor on 33 patents. He is a member of the editorial boards of 24 international journals and has edited 12 books. He recently wrote “Healing Spices.”
