Jaesung Choi, NDSU doctoral student in transportation and logistics, is the lead author of a paper accepted for publication in the American-Eurasian Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The article, “The Relationship between Water Pollution and Economic Growth Using the Environmental Kuznets Curve: A Case Study in South Korea” is set to be published early this year.

The paper reviews the relationship between economic growth and water quality in South Korea’s four main rivers. The research found that, in general, the turning point for improved water quality appeared at later economic development stages for industrial pollution than for biological pollution.

Co-authors are Robert Hearn, NDSU associate professor of agribusiness and applied economics; Kihoon Lee, professor of economics at Chungnam National University, Daejeon, Korea; and David Roberts, NDSU assistant professor of agribusiness and applied economics.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
