Assistant professor's study of social media published

David Westerman, assistant professor of communication, was recently published in the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication.

Westerman’s study is titled “Social Media as Information Source: Recency of Updates and Credibility of Information.” The Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal was established in 1995 to cover the interdisciplinary field of computer-mediated communication.

Westerman’s study examines what criteria people use to make credibility judgments on social media.

“We found that more recent updating seemed to lead to people thinking more, and this thinking led to higher judgments of credibility,” Westerman said.
