Memorial service held for NDSU professor emeritus

An overflow crowd remembered John D. Nalewaja, NDSU professor emeritus of weed science and physiology, during a memorial service Nov.19 in Loftsgard Hall. 

Nalewaja died Nov. 11 in San Tan Valley, Arizona, at the age of 84. Former colleagues, graduate students and friends joined Nalewaja's family at the service.

Nalewaja was a noted leader in weed science research, and he had more than 200 publications in various scientific journals.

Nalewaja earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Minnesota. He began working at NDSU in 1962 and retired in 1998.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
