Academic assistant receives Gunkelman award

Ronda Klubben, academic assistant in the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, received the Mary McCannel Gunkelman Recognition Award during a ceremony May 6 in the Memorial Union Plains Room. The honor goes to the student, faculty or staff member who has made the most significant and unselfish contribution to a happy environment at NDSU. 

“I was overwhelmed and honored to be selected as the winner of the Gunkelman Award,” Klubben said. “I am very fortunate to work in a department with such wonderful faculty, staff and students. I want to say thank you to the Gunkelman family for making this award possible and to all the people who nominated me.”

Student nominees included Mohana Asha Latha Dubasi, electrical and computer engineering; Paige Geske, human development and family science; Kene Okigbo, landscape architecture; John Olhoft, enrollment management; and Calla Price, zoology.

Staff nominees included Steven Anderson, animal sciences; Loretta Askew, nursing; Colin Auwarter, plant sciences; Wendy Baumann, Center for Global Initiatives; Calie Craddock, military and veteran services; Tammy Erdmann, music; Judy Erikson, Office of Admission; Ann Fredrickson, criminal justice and political science; Bonita Goecke, Dining Services; Sharon Kaup, Facilities Management; Klubben; Cheryl Long, custodian – Minard Hall; Connie McNamara, NDSU Bookstore customer service; Linda Murphy, Bison Connection; Kristine Neu, AES Research Green House; Kendra Otto, enrollment management; Janelle Quam, College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources; and Matt Skoy, Student Activities - Memorial Union.

Faculty nominees included Timothy Alvarez, vice president for Student Affairs; Ann Burnett, communication; Kristen Hahne, health, nutrition and exercise sciences; Eakalak Khan, civil and environmental engineering; Birgit Pruess, veterinary and microbiological sciences; and Angela Smith, history.

The award was established in 1987. It is named in honor of Mary McCannel Gunkelman, a 1942 graduate of the NDSU College of Home Economics who died in 1985.
