Emergency management faculty member to give soft skills seminar

Carol Cwiak, associate professor of emergency management, has been invited to present a workshop on soft skills to the College of Nursing and Health Professions at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The workshop, titled "Integrating Soft Skill Development into the Curriculum," is scheduled Jan. 18, 2016. Approximately 100 faculty are anticipated, teaching in such areas as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech, nutrition, social work, medical imaging, disaster preparedness and emergency management.

The session will cover the following topics:

• Identify soft skills sought by employers and industry leaders

• Ways soft skills add value in the workplace

• Key changes in society that have affected soft skill development

• Why soft skills have become part of the purview of higher education

• Deconstruct the components of soft skill

• Ways soft skills can be taught and evaluated

• Curriculum for places where soft skills can be taught, practiced and evaluated

• Inclusion of soft skills in course offerings
