NDSU Darwin Day events scheduled

A series of events are scheduled at NDSU to commemorate Darwin Day. NDSU Darwin Day co-sponsors include the Departments of Biological Sciences and Geosciences, the College of Science and Mathematics, and Cooperative Sponsorship at NDSU.

• "Setting the Record Straight: Rectifying Popular Misconceptions about Hominin Evolution" is set for Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Fargo Public Library, 102 3rd St. N., Fargo. Seth Quintus, NDSU postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Geosciences, will give the presentation.

• "Hall of Biodiversity and Herpetology Zoo" is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Festival Concert Hall lobby. Displays will feature selected specimens from NDSU's natural history collections. Department of Biological Sciences graduate students will serve as interpreters. Live animals on display are from NDSU's reptile collection.

• "Ordinary Extraordinary Junco" is set for Friday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. in Festival Concert Hall. The documentary film highlights biological research on one of the most common and diverse group of songbirds in North America – the Juncos.

• "Celebrate Darwin¹s birthday with cake" is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 19, from 3:30 to 4 p.m. in the Festival Concert Hall lobby.

• "Junco Journeys, Can a Backyard Bird be an Evolutionary Rockstar?" presented by Ellen Ketterson, Distinguished Professor of biology and gender studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. in Festival Concert Hall
