NDSU Extension plans agricultural outlook and farm bill conferences

The NDSU Extension Service has scheduled eight agricultural outlook conferences throughout the state. Presenters include several members from the NDSU Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics.

Frayne Olson, NDSU crops marketing specialist, will provide an outlook of crop markets and how to manage price risk. Tim Petry, NDSU livestock economist, will give a livestock market outlook.

Dwight Aakre and Andrew Swenson, NDSU farm management specialists, will discuss input costs and projected crop profitability for 2009. Aakre and Swenson also will discuss the features of the farm bill that are most likely to affect producers.

At selected sites, Ron Haugen, NDSU farm management specialist, will discuss wind energy development and cover contract provisions and liability concerns for participating landowners. Haugen is not pictured.

The conferences begin at 10 a.m. and are scheduled at the following sites:

• Cavalier – Feb. 9, Emergency Operations Center basement
• Maddock – Feb. 10, Community Center
• Cooperstown – Feb. 11, Country Club
• Mohall – Feb. 23, Legion Club
• New Town – Feb. 24, Four Bears Casino, Arikara Room
• Beulah – Feb. 25, Civic Center
• Hettinger – Feb. 26, Research Extension Center
• Washburn – March 5, Memorial Hall
