The Northern Plains Ethics Institute is scheduled to host a public forum on the ethics of local police wearing body cameras Tuesday, May 3, from 7 - 9 p.m. at NDSU’s Minard Hall room 116.
Panel participants include Fargo police chief David Todd, Moorhead police chief David Ebinger, West Fargo police chief Michael Reitan and NDSU criminal justice and public policy professor Carol Archbold. NDSU assistant professor Nicholas Bauroth is scheduled to moderate the event.
“There has been increasing national and local attention on whether the police should wear body cameras when they are on duty,” said Dennis Cooley, NDSU professor and Northern Plains Ethics Institute director. “This forum is designed to begin a civil, thoughtful conversation about the issue.
The panelists will be asked a series of questions, including what role the video can play in court, whether the public has access to video recordings and whether wearing a camera changes behavior during policing. Attendees will also be able to ask the panelists questions.
The Northern Plains Ethics Institute at NDSU was formed in 2000. Its mission is to promote democratic participation in social and ethical issues in the Northern Plains and beyond.
